What the Government is doing, and why we're opposing it.
Following on from our excellent results in the 2023 local elections for the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the Liberal Democrats have been quick to exert their influence on the council's policies.
The Liberal Democrats are now the 2nd largest group on the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and we aim to take control of it in 2027. We believe passionately that politics begins at community level, and this is at the heart of our national politics - to devolve power to local people instead of unanswerable officialdom in London.
In the July 2024 General Election the British people showed their approval of Liberal Demcrat policies by voting in 72 Liberal Demcrat MPs to the House of Commons in London, the highest number in decades.
The Conservatives are now in disarray nationally and have handed Labour a 'super-majority' in the national parliament for the second time in 30 years. Yet Labour offers little more than the Conservatives, making their last Blair-Brown government look positively radical in comparison. Only the Liberal Democrats offer a new and exciting approach.
