Sam Green was the first openly gay politician ever elected in the UK – and possibly the world.
Following on from our excellent results in the 2023 local elections for the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the Liberal Democrats have been quick to exert their influence on the council's policies.
The Liberal Democrats are now the 2nd largest group on the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and we plan to build on that in 2027. We believe passionately that politics begins at community level, and this is at the heart of our national politics - to devolve power to local people instead of unanswerable officialdom in London.
In the July 2024 General Election the British people showed their approval of Liberal Democrat policies by voting in 72 Liberal Democrat MPs to the House of Commons in London, the highest number in decades.
