Dundee LibDems today (Sunday 6th April) expressed concern that up to 60,000 families are at a high risk of repossession - double the number who had their homes repossessed last year.
I was pleased to see so many people attending the meeting on Poverty and Homelessness in Bury St Edmunds on Friday. It was organised by the Christian Network for Justice and Peace and was very well attended. Representatives from Shelter, Gatehouse, the Borough Council and the Citizens Advice Bureau addressed the meeting. It is clear that while many volunteer organisations have stepped forward to help, after the Borough Closed the Night Shelter so many years go, there is a clear and consistent demand for emergency accommodation. A need that is not being met. According to the Borough Council, while there are over 5,000 people on the housing waiting list there are 146 homeless people in the Borough. Though waiting list is something of a misnomer as the waiting won't do you any good.
Brentwood Liberal Democrats have released their vision for Brentwood, ahead of the borough council elections on Thursday 1st May 2008.
Shepway Council are collecting brown-top bins back from households across Shepway who are refusing to pay the Council's new £35 Garden Tax. Thousands of bins are being collected by Shepway Council vans and the recycling and composting rate is expected to drop significantly.
The Liberal Democrats are mounting demonstrations against the Chinese Government's repression and human rights abuses in Tibet on the occasion of the Olympic flame being carried through central London this Sunday 6th April.
Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Saturday 5th April) backed comments by the Scottish Parliament's LibDem Housing Spokesperson who has said that council house Right-To-Buy powers should be devolved to Scotland's local authorities.
