Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has announced plans to extend the period that terrorism suspects can be held without charge for up to 42 days. The proposal is planned to give MPs a role in any decision to let police hold suspects for more than the current 28-day limit.
Fifty-six post office branches are to close across Kent with the first ones winding up in the New Year. The 56 offices include all FIVE in Shepway that had been included - despite huge public outcry and even an offer by one Post office in Enbrook Valley to PAY continue to operate its Post Office!
Local Liberal Democrats will be marking International Climate Change Action Day on Saturday by joining a cross-party march from Marks and Spencers to the Spa. The March will begin at 12.00 to coincide with the main march being held in London.
Zahid Shah and St Peter's Liberal Democrat Focus Team have launched a campaign to help beat crime in their community. They want a crack down on bogus callers who try and gain entry into homes. With the December of Focus they enclosed special notice card which house holders can stick on their door's glass on or next to their door. It warns callers that the residents will not buy or sell at the door and tells them that verifiable identification must be produced.
Speaking in Parliament today, during the Ministers announcement of the Local Government Funding for 2008 -2009, Paul challenged the Minister to explain how he could describe the settlement as "a fair one for the Derbyshire Police Authority".
