Councillor slams police

Councillor Jean Ashworth has slammed Rochdale Police following a call she made about a group of between 30 and 40 Asian youths she witnessed smahing a car up on Woodbine Street on Sunday evening (30 September). The car had been abandoned in the street two weeks ago and Councillor Ashworth had reported it last week when there was very little damage to it other than a dent on the drivers side.

Council recycling drive saves Borough £300,000

Rochdale's Environment & Sustainability Cabinet member, Wera Hobhouse has thanked residents across the borough "for making recycling work." This comes with the news that because of the recycling effort made in the borough, the council has managed to save £300,000.

Lib Dems restate support for EDCM

At the Liberal Democrat conference on Monday 17th September, shadow Ministers Danny Alexander MP and Annette Brooke MP restated their support for the EDCM campaign objective of rights and justice for every disabled child. At the EDCM fringe meeting last night, Trevor Phillips, chair of the new Commission on Equality and Human Rights, described disabled children as a 'canary indicator' to show how far our society has progressed towards equality and respect for difference.

Chocolate 'aids fatigue syndrome'

A daily dose of specially-formulated dark chocolate may help cut chronic fatigue syndrome symptoms. Patients in a pilot study found they had less fatigue when eating dark chocolate with a high cocoa content than with white chocolate dyed brown.

Scientists say it may be possible to use a breath test to monitor blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. US researchers have discovered people with type 1 diabetes exhale higher levels of methyl nitrates when their blood sugar levels are too high.
