Lib Dem Leader Nick Clegg spoken out against new proposals on British citizenship in which school-leavers are to be encouraged to swear an oath of allegiance to Queen and country. Ex-attorney general Lord Goldsmith, who is calling for the ceremony in a report to Gordon Brown, says it would give teenagers a sense of belonging.
Dundee LibDems today (Tuesday 11th March) welcomed the conference speech of Liberal Democrat Federal Leader Nick Clegg, who has demanded a shake-up of the whole political system. A running theme of the speech was the need for a new kind of politics.

Post Offices run by the Council could become a reality after senior Lib Dems gave their backing to a study into the scheme. Council Leader Alan Taylor will be asking the Council to investigate all costs involved and produce a study into the practicalities of such a service. This is in the light of a decision by Essex County Council to become the first local authority in the country to discuss taking over the running of post offices earmarked for closure.
