Virtual conference to take power to the people

Yesterday Liberal Democrat Leader Sir Menzies Campbell and Liberal Democrat Peer Lord (Paul) Tyler, launch a cross-party 'virtual conference', aimed at re-engaging people with the political process. Hundreds of people, particularly students, have already registered for the on-line conference.

Labour civil war over Blair departure date

Labour Party erupted into civil war as eight members of the Government, including two from the West Midlands, quit their posts today over Tony Blair's refusal to name a date for his resignation as Labour leader. Junior minister Tom Watson and seven parliamentary private secretaries (PPSs) are among 17 normally loyal Labour MPs who have signed a letter calling on Mr Blair to quit.

A partnership involving the police and Lib Dem led Leicester City Council has been one of the first in the country to introduce a single non-emergency number - offering action and advice on crime and anti-social behaviour around the clock was launched on Monday.
