U-Turn on School Cash Grab Welcomed

Liberal Democrat Shadow Children, Schools and Families Secretary, David Laws MP, has welcomed the Government's U-Turn on its proposals to impose a 5% 'tax' on school cash balances. The Government today announced in a parliamentary statement that the proposed claw back of school finances would no longer be implemented.

Oaklands Park Traffic - Lib Dems raise local concerns

An additional car park, positioned on existing tennis courts, has been approved by Chelmsford Borough's planning committee. This despite objections from local residents, who were concerned about extra traffic movements within the park. Lib-Dem County Cllr. Keith Francis attempted to persuade the Council to amend the scheme citing strong reservations from English Heritage and the ways in which, in his view, serious harm would result from this decision. An additional tennis court has been promised.

Liberal Democrat Acting Leader boycotts state visit by Saudi King

Acting Liberal Democrat Leader Vince Cable is boycotting the state visit of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia. Dr Cable has turned down an invite to a Buckingham Palace banquet in the King's honour, citing Saudi Arabia's poor human rights record, and the alleged corruption around the regime's arms deal with the British firm BAE.
