At the National Farmers' Union annual conference today, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Secretary, Tim Farron will set out plans to reform the farm payments system and use the savings to support farm apprenticeships.
Jill Wareham, Liberal Democrat Prospective MP for the Island, is calling again for urgent discussions to take place to save the Military Road. Jill has been monitoring the cliff falls at the narrowest point between the cliff edge and the road for the past five weeks. In this time, the cliff has fallen at least five metres. At that rate, she said, the road will have to be closed completely in a month's time.

Veolia Water Southeast (VWSE) has announced that its prices for 2010/2011 will rise by 1.5%. Ofwat has approved an increase of 1.2% in charges to allow the company to continue with its extensive capital investment programme with an additional allowance for inflation of 0.3%. The 2010/2011 charges were agreed with the regulator last year as part of a five year plan covering the period 2010-2015. The rises for 2010/11 will take effect from the beginning of April.
