Poorest 'must pay less for fuel'

The poorest households should pay less for their gas and electricity, according to Energywatch. Three million households in Britain struggle to pay, says the energy watchdog, and it wants the government to force firms to cut their bills.

Liberal Democrat Climate Change Plan rejected by Labour and Tories

A Liberal Democrat action plan to tackle climate change was voted down by Labour MPs in the House of Commons yesterday, as the Conservatives sat on their hands. The motion, proposed in an opposition day debate led by Shadow Environment Secretary Chris Huhne MP, included proposals for annual emissions targets, green taxes, and tough new efficiency standards for buildings. Neither the government nor the Conservatives proposed a serious alternative to the Liberal Democrat plan.

City sites 'inaccessible' by Tube

Eight out of 10 of London's main tourist sites will be inaccessible for the disabled by the time the 2012 Olympics are held, it has been claimed. The study by London Assembly Liberal Democrats found most London Underground (LU) stations in central London would not become step-free until 2020. The report added 17 of the 27 Tube stations which will be refurbished by 2012 are in outer London.
