Liberal Democrats launch their manifesto for people with disabilities

The Liberal Democrats today launch their manifesto for people with disabilities, promising a £200 winter fuel payment for severely disabled people and free off-peak local bus travel for all people with disabilities. Other key policies include a Single Equality Act to put disability legislation on a par with race and sex discrimination and accessible public services to give people more control over their healthcare and education. The manifesto also contains other key measures to promote independent living, including measures to help people with disabilities find stable long term employment and help with additional living costs.

Students hit hard with maximum Top-Fees

In information released this month 9 out of 10 universities in England are to charge the maximum tuition fee of £3,000 when they are allowed to raise their fees next year. Only eight have opted to charge lower fees, according to the figures on fees and bursaries from Office for Fair Access (Offa).

Liberal Democrats launch their manifesto for the family

The Liberal Democrats today launched their manifesto for the families. The manifesto has policies offering new working mothers a Maternity Income Guarantee, equivalent to the minimum wage of £170 per week for the first 6 months after the birth of their first child; the reduction of class sizes for 5-7 year olds and creation of 3500 Children's Centres to help with childcare; the reform of the tax credit system, making housing more affordable and the introduction of a rights-based Children's Commissioner to protect children's rights.
