Hollyhock House to be made safe

Park Ward's Liberal Democrat Councillor, Cllr Robin Lawrence can report that Hollyhock House on Tettenhall Road should soon be boarded up and secured. Wolverhampton Council's Sustainable Communities Division are in the process of contacting the site owners to ask them to board up the site and secure it. If the site owners fail to do this then the Council will secure the site and charge the owners accordingly.

Abandoning Human Rights would turn Britain into a 'renegade state'

Home secretary John Reid has made clear he would be prepared to declare a "state of emergency" to suspend key parts of the human rights convention if the law lords do not overturn a series of judgments that have weakened the anti-terrorist control order regime. Reid's stark warning to the courts follows the embarrassment of having to confirm to MPs that three terror suspects whom he had placed under control orders to prevent them travelling abroad to kill British and US troops had all absconded.

"Britain is the dirtiest rich country in the European Union" - Chris Huhne MP

Speaking ahead of the Government's waste strategy announcement today, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said: "Britain is the dirtiest rich country in the European Union. Every British person throws away half a tonne each year, 15 per cent more than ten years ago. The Netherlands and Germany recycle three times as much as Britain. Most of our waste heads for landfill where it can pollute table water and create dangerous greenhouse gases like methane. This belated attempt to improve our performance needs to be far more ambitious."
