BBC ruling on use of 'gay' extremely concerning - Williams

Liberal Democrat Higher and Further Education Spokesperson, Stephen Williams MP, has written to BBC Chairman Michael Grade following a ruling from the BBC Governors Complaints Committee that Radio1 DJ Chris Moyles could use the term 'gay' to mean 'rubbish' or 'lame' because it is commonplace amongst young people.

Lib Dems announce new tax policies that hit polluters

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Menzies Campbell has unveiled a radical shift in his party's approach to tax policy with a 2p cut in the basic rate. He said the proposals would raise about £20bn elsewhere to fund the cut which would be raised by higher green taxes announced earlier in "Green Switch". Plans to raise taxes to 50p in the pound for high earners have gone. Instead of being the party of higher overall taxes and spending, the Lib Dems will now champion "fairer, simpler and greener taxes".

Deficits show need for overhaul of NHS funding

Commenting on the release today of the NHS Annual Report, local MP Tim Farron said: "It is clear from the news today that the NHS funding system needs a complete overhaul. Hospital trusts like our local Morecambe Bay trust have to provide services to a much wider geographical area without any extra funding. The extra cost of providing services across the rural area of Morecambe Bay far exceeds the £6.4million deficit that they have recorded.
