Shepway Students see Debt Increasing

The 2006 NatWest Student Money Matters survey reveals that sixth formers starting university this year expect to pay £33,512 for a three-year degree course. This is up from £28,600 last year and includes the new tuition fees. As a result, they expect to graduate with £14,779 of debt, an increase of £1,099 on 2005 figures.

Council Leader demands money back!

The Leader of Rochdale Council - Councillor Alan Taylor has call for Countryside Properties to 'bear the costs' of the Atkins Report into the contaminated land at the former TBA Site in Rochdale. Rochdale Council estimate that the final cost of producing the report could be as high as £80,000. In the letter to Countryside Properties - Councillor Taylor says that the report was commissioned solely to "assess the adequacy of the studies carried out into ground contamination issues associated with your outline Planning Application to re-develop the former Turner Brothers Asbestos site at Rooley Moor Road."

PARLIAMENT MUST BE RECALLED TO DEBATE MIDDLE EAST CRISIS - ROWEN

Rochdale Liberal Democrat MP, Paul Rowen, today backed a growing campaign to recall Parliament so that MPs can debate the crisis in the Middle East. Liberal Democrat, Nationalist and some backbench Labour MPs have written to the Leader of the House of Commons, Jack Straw, calling for Parliament to be recalled.
