It is good news for Woking residents that the real danger of a Surrey Unitary Authority - effectively the County Council taking over all the Surrey Boroughs and Districts - has been seen off. All the Surrey Boroughs and Districts have worked well and firmly together to see off this threat.

2,500 Post Offices face closure
The Government have announced the closure of an additional 2,500 Post Offices. Ed Davey, Liberal Democrat DTI Spokesperson said "This is the death knell for thousands of local shops and rural businesses that depend on their local post office. If tough decisions on Royal Mail had been taken, the freedoms and funds for saving post offices could have been found. Our postal services have a proud 300 year history which this Government has decimated in less than a decade."
