Lib Dems rejects Tory pact offer

Former Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy has poured cold water on an offer from the Conservatives to forge a "progressive alliance" against Labour. He said there were too many issues dividing the parties. Lib Dem acting leader Vince Cable also rejected the offer, saying Mr Cameron was living "in cloud cuckoo land". David Cameron has called on both the Green Party and the Lib Dems to work with his party.

Liberal Democrat 'Fair Deal for the Forces' call voted down

A Liberal Democrat proposal for a better deal for those in the armed forces has been rejected in parliament. The proposal, put forward during an Opposition Day debate yesterday, called for a codified Military Covenant and for the government to ensure that those serving in the armed forces have access to quality accommodation and other services. Labour MPs voted down the proposals by 302 votes to 71, with the Conservatives not voting.

Developers plan to build 170 flats on the site of the Ashford Hospital West Wing. A planning application was submitted to Spelthorne Council at the end of November and shows a 6-storey building with an underground car park.

Lib Dem research shows Christmas TV repeats 'up a quarter'

The number of repeats on TV this Christmas has increased by a quarter since last year, according to research by the Liberal Democrats. The study found that 44% of all programmes shown between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day will be repeats, up from 35% a year ago. Channel Five was the worst offender, as almost 60% of its output had been seen before and Christmas Day repeats were up on all networks except Channel 4.
