Liberal Democrats up to 28% in latest Opinion Poll

Bob Worcester of MORI has revealed that the Liberal Democrats are now on 28% in the areas that are having elections next Thursday. This is one the highest ever ratings for the Liberal Democrats and with still a week to go before the local elections bodes well for the Liberal Democrats.

Lib Dems and Michael Howard Agree: Clarke should Quit

Both the Lib Dems and Folkestone MP Michael Howard have called on Charles Clarke to resign after he admitted losing track of 1,023 foreign prisoners who should have been considered for deportation. The missing prisoners include three murderers and nine rapists.

Lib Dems call for Clarke to resign for losing track of 1,000 foreign prisoners

The Liberal Democrat Leader, Sir Menzies Campbell, has asked the Prime Minister who was going to take responsibility for the latest Home Office fiasco and called on the Home Secretary to resign. Charles Clarke rejected this call for his resignation after losing track of 1,000 foreign prisoners who should have been considered for deportation. The missing prisoners include three murderers and nine rapists.

Crime Prevention is a Central Theme in the Liberal Democrats Local Election Campaign.

Liberal Democrat Leader, Sir Menzies Campbell, has highlighted the Party's crime initiative. He dropped in on Liberal Democrat-controlled Sutton to meet police officers and council staff who work together at the town's police station to provide neighbourhood wardens, drug and alcohol abuse services, wardens, truancy liaison officers and domestic violence services. "Preventing crime is very much a liberal issue," he said, during the visit.

Lib Dems hit 24% in latest opinion poll.

Scarborough and Whitby Lib Dems have welcomed the party's new high opinion poll rating: 24%, according to a Guardian/ICM poll. The poll shows the Tories support flatlining in the low 30's with 'Dave' Cameron's largely uncritical press coverage making no difference to Tory fortunes, and the Labour party hitting a new low in public esteem.

Masts to be excluded from Parks

A decision was finally reached tonight to exclude telecomms masts from parks in Epsom & Ewell. This followed the motion proposed in September 2005 by Cllr Colin Taylor and seconded by Cllr Jonathan Lees, calling for masts not to be allowed in the Borough's parks and open spaces.
