New database an Orwellian step too far

Ministers are to consider plans for a database of electronic information holding details of every phone call and e-mail sent in the UK, it has emerged. The plans, reported in the Times, are at an early stage and may be included in the draft Communications Bill later this year, the Home Office confirmed.

Tories Respond to Lib Dem Campaign to Repair Roads

The Tory controlled County Council has responded to the Liberal Democrat campaign to improve the condition of Surrey's roads by allocating funding for road maintenance and financing a two-year programme worth £35.4 million. This follows their failure to spend all their own Highways budget over the last five years.

Farron attacks "wholly inadequate" plans to replace Post Offices in Backbarrow and Greenodd

Local MP Tim Farron has today spoken out against Post Office Ltd plans for the Post Offices in Backbarrow and Greenodd, dubbing them "wholly inadequate." In a letter from the Post Office to one of Mr Farrons constituents, it was revealed that Post Office Ltd do not intend to upgrade Ulverston Post Office, despite persisting with plans to close the nearby branches in Greenodd and Leven Valley (Backbarrow); two branches which Mr Farron has fought hard to save. This has the potential to leave the people of Backbarrow and Greenodd not only without their own post offices but with no additional capacity at Ulverston to absorb the overspill.

Post office campaign heads to Westminster

Local MP Tim Farron joined with Greenodd post office postmistress Janet Willis today to deliver 6,800 petition signatures to the Prime Minister at Number 10 today. Mr Farron also delivered signed petitions from Leven Valley and Beetham post office to continue the campaign to keep the branches open.
