Liberal Democrats unveil anti crime strategy

Youngsters who commit minor crimes or anti-social behaviour should not face prosecution in courts, under a new Liberal Democrat crime strategy. Custody for youngsters should be seen as a "last resort". Children who admit guilt would appear before panels of local people to apologise, with punishment in the form of a "positive behaviour order". Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman Chris Huhne said Labour "criminalised a generation of young people. It is time for a new approach to youth justice which both prevents crime and confronts young people with their actions if they do break the law."

I recently carried out a survey of local residents' views and one of the things I asked them to list was the top three priorities/issues that concerned them. Unsurprisingly the top three issues were Crime, Health and the Environment. When I look at some of the issues I've been dealing with, either through meetings, my mail bag or in conversation with residents, I find the same issues cropping up.

Liberal Democrats set out vision for Britain

Lib Dem Party Leader Nick Clegg has set out his party's vision for Britain in a new document called 'Make It Happen'. Chelmsford Lib Dem Stephen Robinson commented, "The document discusses income tax cuts across the board; real action to cut crime and improve health & education; and reforming the political process to give everyone a voice."
