GCSE and A Level Results

I must comment on the exam results achieved by students in Bedford Borough, following the A Level and GCSE results days in the past week, and offer my congratulations to all the students for their hard work. To take one measure for GCSEs, which were published on Tuesday this week, there was a 3% rise across the Borough's maintained schools in the number of students achieving 5 A* - Cs, including English and Maths, taking this number over 50%. Meanwhile, A Level results in the Borough's maintained schools also saw a rise in terms of both the overall number of points achieved by students, and the average points achieved per subject.

Melksham Councillor Launches Campaign To Save Library

Wiltshire Councillor for Melksham South, Jon Hubbard, has today launched a campaign to save Melksham Library after the Conservative Administration in County Hall announced a consultation exercise which proposes closing the popular town centre resource in favour of an out-of-town complex to be located by the new Melksham Oak Community School.

War on Graffiti Continues

From Saffron Lane to Aylestone Road from there to Knighton Lane East and the surrounding streets, graffiti artists continue to strike. Lamposts, traffic boxes, street signs to the side of some homes, where ever there is space or not, no where seems to be free from the graffiti 'tag'.

Local MP Tim Farron has visited nearly 40 towns and villages - from Grasmere in the north to Arnside in the south and Dent in the east to Coniston in the west - in the past two weeks, as part of his annual summer surgery tour.

Farron launches Cumbria Tourism Fightback

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has today called for the government to support the Cumbrian tourism industry. Tim has written to Business Secretary Vince Cable asking for his support following proposed 53% cuts to Cumbria Tourism's yearly budget.
