A planning application for 30 new houses has been submitted for Lawrence House in Cheriton. The former care home site is to be redeveloped following its closure.

Future of Fire Service questioned
There could soon be no more retained firefighters in Wiltshire as the service reacts to cuts in funding. The information was extracted from the Fire And Rescue Service by Devizes councillor Nigel Carter, who asked if it was true that retained firefighters were currrently earning less than the minimum wage, and that full-time firefighters were only being given one-year contracts.

Parking problems at shops
There are major parking problems at two sets of shops in the ward. The parade on Dovedale Road has been highlighted previously. Here uncaring drivers continually block neighbours' drives and also drive at speed between rows of parked cars.

Stones Road "tunnel" open
At last, the long-awaited Stones Road underpass has been re-opened. Surrey County Council's contractor still has some work to do on site, but local residents have already passed through it today, ahead of the "official" opening this Monday.
