Bromley's gay and lesbian community are gearing up for this Saturday's march through Bromley town centre to demonstrate against the Council's refusal to allow same sex ceremonies in their municipal buildings including the register office.
In a recent Liberal Democrat survey, residents in the Finchfield Road and Merridale areas have raised concerns about traffic problems and worries about safety. A serious accident at the junction of Finchfield Road and Merridale Road on Sunday (24 July) highlighted the need for action.
At the meeting of Surrey County Council today, the Liberal Democrats put forward proposals to give Surrey's Local Committees control of youth services in their areas. This would have committed the Council to act on the recommendation from the Local Committees that there should be joint working with Boroughs and Districts on youth provision.
Many residents of Richmond Road told the Park Ward Liberal Democrat Focus Team that they were worried by the speeds of cars travelling past their houses. The Focus Team is only too aware that excessive speed is not only dangerous but is highly disturbing for residents.
Liberal Democrat County Councillors tried at today's council meeting to ensure that priorities important to Surrey residents are included in the Council's formal list of priorities for the next four years. Hazel Watson, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on the County Council, said: "The Conservative administration's plans need to be clearer and more specific. Important priorities are missing from the Conservatives' plans."
In a newly published poll conducted by MORI, the Liberal Democrats are shown to be attracting the support of 25% (up 4%), just one percentage point behind the Conservatives who are on 26%.
