Liberal Democrats in the European Parliament have backed the Commission's announcement that the price of roaming text and data charges will be dramatically reduced, thereby ending large costs for roaming customers in EU countries who currently pay almost 10 times more than domestic messaging.

Andrew Duff, Lib Dem Euro MP for the region since 1999 and Leader of the Lib Dems in the European Parliament, will launch the campaign this week with Nick Clegg MP, Leader of the party, in London on Tuesday. Andrew and Nick will be campaigning together in the region on Thursday.

Despite a high profile campaign Shepway District Council Cabinet surrendered the lease on the Folkestone Lift last month. This means that at the end of June they will no longer be running the service. To ensure that the lift does not rot into insignificance a new way forward will need to be found.
More support needs to be given to hill farmers according to Liberal Democrat Shadow Defra Secretary Tim Farron who believes hill farming could die out within ten years unless urgent steps are taken to inject new lifeblood into the industry.
