Tories save Labour's Education Bill which was a pitiful wasted opportunity

Commenting on Wednesday's vote on the Education and Inspections Bill, Sir Menzies Campbell, leader of the Liberal Democrats said: "Once again, the Liberal Democrats have proved to be the real opposition to this government. David Cameron's Tories have leaped to the aid of a faltering Prime Minister. Reform and improvement of our education system are vital. But these proposals are rushed, poorly thought out and ill judged. The Prime Minister is in a hurry to create a legacy but risks leaving our public services in disarray.

Lib Dems top Friends of the Earth poll on climate change

A Friends of the Earth on-line poll today puts the Liberal Democrats far ahead of the other main parties in caring about climate change. Asked 'which of the three main parties cares most about climate change?', nearly 83 per cent of the respondents named the Liberal Democrats. The Conservatives were in second place on 12 per cent and Labour on 6 per cent.

Lost Gamble: Shepway Fail to Make Casino Shortlist

Shepway's bid to be considered for one of the 8 new "large" or "small" casinos that will be licenced nationwide has failed. The shortlist for potential sites has been announced today, and the Folkestone Seafront site has lost out to bids from competing authorities including Hastings and Dartford.
