BBC Poll Backs Lib Dem Call for Local Income Tax

A national BBC poll on Council Tax has backed Lib Dem proposals to scrap Council Tax entirely and replace it with a local income tax. The Lib Dem proposals for Local Income Tax would mean the majority of current Shepway Council Tax payers would be better off, with many lower paid including pensioners paying nothing at all.

Europe-wide action to end homophobic bullying

Liberal Democrat MEP for London Baroness Sarah Ludford, a member of the European Parliament's Intergroup on Gay & Lesbian rights, has added her support to a written declaration on combating homophobic bullying. Sarah said: "The European Parliament has consistently condemned homophobia both inside and outside the EU. With this written declaration, we are calling on member state governments to fight homophobia in education, to support LGBT youth groups and to organise a peer review to disseminate best practice on combating homophobia in schools."

People want a Local Income Tax not a Council Tax - BBC poll

Most people think that the current system of Council Tax is unfair, a BBC poll suggests. Of 840 adults interviewed across England, 59% said basing the tax on eight property price bands was unfair. A similar percentage - 60% - said they were in favour of replacing the current tax with a local income tax. It has been Liberal Democrat policy for a long time to replace Council Tax with a Local Income Tax.

Lifting on injunction reveals truth about Cash for Honours memo

Tony Blair's aide Ruth Turner expressed concern that Lord Levy had put to her a version of events over cash-for-honours which she believed to be untrue. The concern was put in a document, which the BBC has not seen, but which has been supported by more than one source. The injunction barring the media from covering the story was lifted earlier today by a High Court judge.
