Chapel Ash tree Saved - Thanks to Liberal Democrats

Following extensive campaigning by local residents and Liberal Democrats a fully mature tree in Chapel Ash will NOT now be facing the chop. Proposals had been put to Park Ward's Liberal Democrat Councillors to remove the tree as part of crossing improvements at the busy junction on Tettenhall Road. Thanks to pressure from Councillors Claire Darke and Robin Lawrence plans have now been adapted to improve the crossing and junction while at the same time save the tree.

New Bins for West Park

Thanks to work from Park Ward Liberal Democrats Wolverhampton Council has installed new bins around one of our City's premier locations: West Park. The existing bins on posts around the perimeter railings are masked by parked cars during the daytime meaning that they are seldom used. Liberal Democrats have insisted that the new bins were installed near to the West Park entrances to make it as easy as possible for people to use them.

A Dutch company has been fined £10,370 for transporting live sheep through Dover on standard passenger ferries, and declaring the load as meat.

Making the Case for Investment in the Borough's Schools

It was a very constructive meeting with Michael Gove this morning. Clearly we didn't expect to get any answers on how much capital funding will be forthcoming for schools in the Borough this morning, but we were very glad of the opportunity to make the case for investment in our schools. We discussed the context of the cancelled Building Schools for the Future programme and what that has meant in Bedford Borough, the specific case of the Bedford Academy (which will be replacing John Bunyan Upper School from September) and its plans, the current accommodation for our special schools and the wider issues around education in the Borough.
