Bill for Fixed Term General Elections Tabled by Lib Dems in Parliament

The Liberal Democrats will today table a Bill to the House of Commons to introduce fixed parliamentary terms of four years. The measure, which represents long-standing party policy, comes after Gordon Brown ruled out holding a General Election this autumn, and described the possibility of a poll in 2008 as "very unlikely".

Rowen marches to bring troops home

Rochdale MP Paul Rowen today joined fellow politician Tony Benn, dozens of Lib Dem MP's, musician Brian Eno, comedian Mark Thomas and former Starsky and Hutch TV actor David Soul in a protest designed to call for the Labour Government to withdraw troops from Iraq. Mr Rowen joined thousands of protesters on the first day of Parliament after the long Summer recess.
