THANK YOU! Liberal Democrats gain overall majority

Thanks to your votes, Bosworth Liberal Democrats gained 10 seats in the May 3rd local elections and now have an overall majority on the council. The result in Hinckley and Bosworth has been hailed by many as the best Liberal Democrat result in Britain.

English Council elections - Liberal Democrats beat Labour by 300 Councillors

The Liberal Democrats won 300 more council seats than Labour in Thursday's local government elections in England. With one council (Breckland) still to finish counting 2,167 Liberal Democrats councillors have been elected compared to 1,867 Labour councillors. The party gained control of 6 councils: Eastbourne and Hinckley & Bosworth (Leics) - both from the Conservatives - plus Rochdale, Kingston-upon-Hull, Northampton and Caradon (Cornwall), and held another 17.

Banks face action over dyslexia

A man with severe dyslexia has launched a legal challenge against two High Street banks about the way they communicate with disabled customers. Robert Neil from Norfolk has difficulty understanding written words and figures, and says he has paid thousands of pounds in bank charges. He says he now has a bad credit rating after becoming inadvertently overdrawn.

'Changes needed' in social care

An overhaul in social care with more state-funded support for the most vulnerable is needed, a survey says. Social care is effectively means-tested in the UK apart from Scotland where personal care is provided free. But a poll of 2,306 found most people were against the current arrangements, although many accepted some individual contribution may be needed.

Long wait for coeliac diagnosis

People with coeliac disease are waiting an average of 13 years to be diagnosed, a poll has revealed. The gut disorder is caused by gluten intolerance, and can lead to bone problems, infertility or bowel cancer. The charity Coeliac UK says some of the 800 patients surveyed reported seeing their GP almost 30 times before being diagnosed. But it says the condition can be easily detected by GPs using a quick and simple blood test.

Cllr Lawrence gets down to work straight away

Despite feeling flushed with success, Cllr Robin Lawrence and the Liberal Democrats realise that there is much to do in Park Ward. A bathroom suite was found illegally fly tipped just days after the successful election victory. Cllr Lawrence has already arranged to get it removed.
