South East Lib Dems Back Gurkha Justice Campaign

South East Region Liberal Democrats have backed a motion adding their strong support to the Gurkha Justice campaign call for a fair deal for all Gurkhas on residence and pensions. The conference in Ashford on Saturday 30th March backed the motion, which was supported by ex-Gurkha Folkestone Town Councillor Dhan Gurung who spoke in favour of the motion.

Warning on drugs for Alzheimer's patients in nursing homes

The "chemical cosh" anti psychotic drugs that are widely prescribed for people with Alzheimer's disease in nursing homes do more harm than good, according to a study published today. Around 60% of nursing home Alzheimer's patients are anti psychotics antipsychotics such as risperidone to calm - and some say to contain - their behaviour. But the drugs, also known as neuroleptics, have severe side-effects, which include strokes and even death.

Disabled attack accused remanded

A man has appeared in court over an attack which left a physically disabled Belfast man fighting for his life. David McCarroll, 19, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody, charged with the attempted murder of Ross McCartney.
