Big boost for apprenticeships
The programme to transform our secondary schools over the next few years is creating lots of job opportunities for local people. Liberal Democrat Cllr Chris Thayne, who as Executive Member for Children's Services has played a major part in this process, has emphasised the importance of providing jobs for local people during the construction phase. The scheme provides the opportunity for apprenticeships to be created.

£18.25million for Wolverhampton schools under Liberal Democrats
Plans announced by Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg MP to boost funding of schools in Wolverhampton by £18.25million have been given the thumbs up by local party members. The plans were set out in the Liberal Democrats' election manifesto.

Yesterday I visited a prison
I don't know what I expected but it certainly wasn't what I experienced. It was disconcerting to discover at the beginning that I could not tell who were prisoners and who were other visitors or education staff. And so many of them were much younger than I had imagined and as I later learnt on indeterminate sentences - they don't know when they will be released.
