School meals provision in meltdown

The government is failing to get more children eating healthy school meals, according to figures obtained by the Liberal Democrats. Figures revealed in response to a parliamentary question by David Laws show that the government's high-profile healthy eating campaign has led to less children eating school meals. Almost 250,000 fewer school meals were served in secondary schools last year compared to two years ago, a fall of some 20%.

MP RUNS 'FROM ALBERT TO THE SOMME' IN FUNDRAISING EFFORT FOR POPULAR STATUE

Local MP Tim Farron will this afternoon be taking part in a charity run to raise money for the restoration of the statue in front of the Cartmel Grange Nursing Home in Grange-over-Sands. The statue, affectionately known as 'Albert', commemorates the lives of local soldiers who lost their lives during the First World War.

Guerrilla Gardening: Lib Dem Team Clean Up Cheriton Rec Land Threatened by Shepway Council

An action day in Cheriton, Folkestone on Sunday 2 September saw Lib Dem Councillors and others battling to bring part of Cheriton Rec back to its best after months of neglect by Shepway Council. The area of park between Weymouth Road and the Cheriton Bowls club has been un-cut for months, and Shepway Council have now submitted a planning application to build 6 houses on the site.

Get traffic off village roads!

Too many fast cars and heavy goods vehicles are still plaguing Broomfield, Great Waltham and neighbouring villages. Local Lib Dem candidate Malcolm Taylor is calling for the long-promised down-grading of the A130 through from Great Waltham to Dunmow, so that more traffic heading to and from Stansted and beyond will use the A131 and A120.
