At the meeting of the Guildford Borough Council to decide the rate of council tax for next year, Liberal Democrat councillors proposed radical cuts in the Council's top management team together with a cut in council spin. The saving of over £1/3 million should then be used to fund improved services, whilst keeping the increase in council tax at the Conservative's figure of 2.46%.
Rochdale MP Paul Rowen spoke of his disappointment after the Prime Minister overlooked his call for a Gaza investigation.
There is renewed hope that the proposed town centre Sixth Form College will go ahead as planned following a summit meeting between Rochdale MP Paul Rowen, Heywood and Middleton MP Jim Dobbin and the Minister for Further Education Sion Simon MP.
Conservative run North Herts District Council has voted down proposals from the Liberal Democrat opposition that would have reduced the rise in Council Tax and cancelled the proposed rise in parking charges. At the same meeting councillors voted to give themselves a 2.45% pay rise.
