The government's plans to boost the economy are a "very limited fig leaf" - Vince Cable
The government's plans to boost the economy by cutting VAT and to raise taxes on high earners are a "very limited fig leaf", says Vince Cable. The Lib Dem Treasury spokesman said he failed to see how a temporary reduction in VAT from 17.5% to 15% would give the economy a "major stimulus". Offering an extra £25 rebate to basic rate taxpayers was "pathetic".
